Voices of Tomorrow

Voices of Tomorrow: TV Talk Show for Youth
Presented by KidsTalk, Voices of Tomorrow
Created 1996 (Ongoing)

KidsTalk: Voices of Tomorrow was created through consultation with families, parents, teens, children, grandparents, people in the public eye and in the communities we serve. It took much thought and talking to see if they would like to have a forum to express their feelings and voice their opinions. As soon as the first show was filmed, there was the realization that the need was truly there, that children and young adults do want to show the world what they are thinking and feeling. They want to show that their generation can and do make a difference.

Voices of Tomorrow gives viewers, parent’s and family members a unique opportunity to see life through our young students-to show the world our future thinkers, movers and shakers. With more and more parents out in the job market, some working more than one job, it is the children and youth who are sometimes raising themselves and each other. Reaching youth in a positive way, Voices of Tomorrow is the first show of its kind, letting students – children and teens, voice their opinions about the world they live in. On Voices of Tomorrow, even the most sensational topics are treated with utmost care and respect. The younger generation will take adults on a journey they soon will not forget!

KidsTalk: Voices of Tomorrow’s goal is to create a global vision throughout the world for our generation. The premise is that adults and parents should really “listen” to what kids and teens have to say because we all learn and benefit when we see through the eyes of the innocent. Intelligent and entertaining, issues-oriented half-hour programs are aimed at youths from 12 to 18 years. Each of the episodes concentrates on one subject relating to today’s issues, and brings it straight into the viewer’s living room. Voices of Tomorrow is aimed at providing an intelligent alternative in family TV programming. Is it is a show that is compelling in it’s format and content and provides for the parent or adult some insight into what they may not understand in their own family unit, or other children and teens they come in contact with, and for the youth, some validation for their thoughts and ideas about what they feel is important.

The half-hour TV show provides a platform for student participants to develop and voice their opinions on varies subjects that affect their every day lives. This platform provides a positive forum for expression. Student interns participate in the production of this weekly television segments and in the production of 30-60 minute documentaries. The student-produced television segments and documentaries cover a wide variety of topics of special importance to modern teenagers. Previous productions have covered the topics of: homelessness, drug addiction, the juvenile justice system, developmental disorders, racial differences, at-risk youth, teens mentoring teen, politics, entertainment, diabetes and overcoming obesity. Student training may take place in a studio setting or on location.

In addition to the benefits gained by the students, Voices of Tomorrow provides an avenue for parents, educators, and the community-at-large to be introduced to and gain an understanding of the unique problems and social challenges facing today’s younger generation. The program raises community awareness of current issues through the perspective of its youth speaking out on what is really going on. This is an invaluable perspective that is often overlooked or discarded because they are teens!
