LMU Nominates KidsTalk for Connect LA Business Award and Wins

KidsTalk Productions Inc., nominated by Loyola Marymount University, received the Connect LA Business Award at a reception at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles on July 21.

For the past five years, KidsTalk has worked with more than 100 LMU students and has contributed, through those students, approximately 1000 hours of community service to the greater Los Angeles Community.

"KidsTalk is a continuous accomplishment with the help of LMU students helping other youth that are less fortunate," said Ninon de Vere De Rosa, founder, host and producer of KidsTalk. "The students are demonstrating their incredible ability to give back to the Los Angeles community."

Founded in 1996, KidsTalk is a nonprofit organization that provides media programming and youth training programs that encourage young people to play active roles in their communities. Collectively, KidsTalk has contributed more than 50,000 hours of service in a 10 year span that has affected young people and their families.

The most notable program of KidsTalk is A Second Chance, which is a Juvenile Hall Outreach program that gives incarcerated youth access to community, educational and business resources prior to their release. LMU student volunteers served as mentors at these Juvenile Hall events and also have volunteered with the TV talk show, "Voices of Tomorrow," with studio production, lighting, editing, sound and public relations.

Connect LA is an organization designed to bring together nonprofit and corporate leaders to look at ways to address the challenges facing community-based organizations in the Los Angeles area. The business award is given to an organization that contributes and bridges the gap between the business and service community in Los Angeles.
